Diagnosis:

Rifat has been diagnosed with Intellectual Disability at the age of 4. Intellectual disability (or ID) is a term used when a person has certain limitations in cognitive functioning and skills, including communication, social and self-care skills. These limitations can cause a child to develop and learn more slowly or differently than a typically developing child. He also has Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). ADHD is one of the most common mental disorders affecting children. 

Some common features of ID-

  • Learning and developing more slowly than other children same age
  • Difficulty communicating or socializing with others.
  • Trouble learning in school.
  • Inability to do everyday tasks like getting dressed or using the restroom without help.

Symptoms of ADHD- 

  • Inattention (not being able to keep focus), 
  • Hyperactivity (excess movement that is not fitting to the setting) and 
  • Impulsivity (hasty acts that occur in the moment without thought).

 

Family Background:

Rifat is a child with disabilities and comes from an underprivileged family. Rifat has difficulties in studies and needs extensive support. His father is a Rickshaw puller who is unable to afford the expenses required to provide those support.

Family Income:

Monthly, 8 thousand (8,000/-) BDT

Rifat’s Difficulties:

  • Problem with eating and digesting.
  • Eye and Dental problem.
  • Hyperactive and short attention span.
  • Lack of social communication and understanding.
