“Mother” is the sweetest word  –  conquering the world. All mothers in the world are self-same sweet, full of compassion, deep and boundless love, and approachable as a unique character. In fact, behind a woman’s sweet motherhood lies many sacrifices and various unknown complications, unusual responsibilities and uncertain family bonds. A mother nurtures her own being as well as the child’s being. This is how a mother is always a dual character. Countless mothers around the world have different stories. It should be noted at this stage that Salma Zakia Bristi is a visual artist and a mother. Among the two children of the artist, Abheen is the younger son. In reality, according to the doctors, Abheen has ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) personality traits. When Abheen was 18 months old, the artist-family came to know about their son’s special features. Through subject-based reviews, they have learned that it is possible to trace how autistic children develop and function with this characterization. In this case, the IEP (Individualized Educational Program) makes the child with special characteristics functional to a great extent.

Salma Zakia Bristhi is an abstract expression focus visual artist. She has completed her bachelors in Printmaking from the fine arts faculty (at present) of Dhaka University. For almost three decades, she has been practicing art by giving life to the abstract ideas of her perception. As a mother, the way she plans to live her artistic life changed after she knew that her son has special characteristics. Usually, in a dream, a person tries to overcome any adversity on own merits. The artist Brishti involved her son with special characteristics in the practice of her regular art. For the past 15 years, the artist has kept this effort going. Although in the early stages, Abheen had no interest in the paint, at one point the artist discovered that Abheen loves to touch and play with liquids and sticky things. Based on these findings, the mother-artist’s efforts made her son interested in painting. Consequently, while improving the child through art practice it has influenced the mother’s work. Consequently, while improving the child through art practice, it has influenced the mother’s work as simple as childish. The artist is unique due to the smooth imagery devoid of complexity, the pose, the creation of simple forms, the choice of sophisticated-flexible postures, the child-simplicity of cotton scratches etc.

Whatever happened over the last 17 years, the artist is now confident, if all of the difficulties have not been overcome yet. This socially conscious artist-mother intends to present the experience and confidence gained to the public and inspire other people. As a result, in 2018, she participated in the 18th Asian Biennial Fine Arts Exhibition Bangladesh by presenting this subject and won the best award according to the expert jurists. It is stimulating for the path to the artist, encouraging the mother’s efforts and the anxious child’s concerted efforts. These presented under entitled Duality – Mother and Child, the State of Combining two Different Souls. This exhibition will show the artistic approach to humanities. I think this exposition will aid in experiencing a different source of hope for all audiences.
